  • Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.
    • First words from the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Module Eagle after guiding the craft to a landing on the moon. It is estimated that there was 11 seconds of fuel left at touchdown. (20 July 1969)
  • That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.
    • Words said when he first stepped onto the moon. In the actual sound recordings he apparently says: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." which is generally considered an error on his part. Armstrong thought he had said it, but also admits that he often forgot syllables when speaking and listening to the audio reveals that the "step" runs on smoothly "for", giving no time for "a" to be spoken. His preference is for the "a" to appear in parentheses when the quote is written. (20 July 1969)
